Optics for the imaging x-ray polarimetry explorer

چکیده
The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, a NASA small explorer mission, will be the first mission dedicated to x-ray polarimetry. payload consists of three identical telescopes, each comprising mirror module assembly (MMA) with polarization-sensitive detector at its focus. We describe all aspects MMA, from initial optical and mechanical design considerations meet program requirements through shell fabrication, integration assembly, environmental testing, calibration, on-ground on-orbit alignment.

X-ray optics for better diagnostic imaging.
Polycapillary x-ray optics provide an innovative new way to control x-ray beams. Placing these optics after the object to be imaged provides very efficient rejection of Compton scatter, while allowing image magnification without loss of resolution, image demagnification, or image shaping to match with digital detectors. Measured scatter rejection optics had primary transmissions greater than 50...
متن کاملX-ray Timing beyond the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer
With its ability to look at bright galactic X-ray sources with sub-millisecond time resolution, the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) discovered that the X-ray emission from accreting compact stars shows quasi-periodic oscillations on the dynamical timescales of the strong field region. RXTE showed also that waveform fitting of the oscillations resulting from hot spots at the surface of rapidl...
متن کاملAn X-ray polarimeter for hard X-ray optics
Development of multi-layer optics makes feasible the use of X-ray telescope at energy up to 60-80 keV: in this paper we discuss the extension of photoelectric polarimeter based on Micro Pattern Gas Chamber to high energy X-rays. We calculated the sensitivity with Neon and Argon based mixtures at high pressure with thick absorption gap: placing the MPGC at focus of a next generation multi-layer ...
